Universal Design for Learning: Creativity, Engagement and Barriers to Learning
October 12, 2015
9:15am-2:30pm
Text version of the guidelines with rationale and research: UDL_Guidelines_Version_2.0(doc)
Presenters: Lisa Katz and Lauri Silver
Workshop Website: http://udlpd.weebly.com/
This session will expose participants to a review of the principles of UDL and connections to the brain networks, and strategies for how we approach who we teach, what we teach and how we teach. We will investigate each of the principles, barriers to learning and applications to the classroom through the analysis of sample lesson plans.
Outcomes
- Analyze how many of the methods, materials and assessments in lessons present barriers to learning for some students.
- Apply the principles of UDL to activities that support problem-solving in your classroom
- Evaluate a lesson and use UDL principles to improve that lesson.
- Explore the Educator Checklist and other tools that provide flexible options in planning and redesigning instruction.
- Reflect on the use of UDL principles in your teaching practice.
